About
Platypus Playcentre is a purpose built licensed daycare for Squamish, BC.
We provide full time daycare for 12 (12 month to 36 month old) children and 25 (36 month to 60 month old) children.
Platypus Playcentre operates with the philosophy education through play that includes programs that monitor the development, both physical and emotional of each child and thorough records are kept. Parents will be kept updated on their child’s progress throughout their time at Platypus Playcentre.
Platypus Playcentre is owned and operated by parents that have extensive experience and qualifications in childcare and the education of children. With attention to details that meet and exceed licensing standards, Platypus operates with a passion for creating a quality, safe and caring environment.
Who we are
The owners of Platypus Playcentre are Stacey Tucker and Louise Schell. Two Squamish Moms who have the skill set, the knowledge, the network and the desire to open a children’s centre. Both Stacey and Louise have extensive backgrounds in childcare and child development with a combined total of over twenty-five years working with children. Stacey was educated in Australia graduating from The University of Melbourne with a diploma of teaching in early childhood development and Louise was educated in New Zealand graduating from Otago University and Dunedin College of Education with an Education Degree and Diploma in Teaching. Both of these women share a passion for children and the desire to provide quality care for them. They also share the idea that educating children through their own initiated play is extremely successful. With their backgrounds and experience as well as their desire to make a difference to the families of the Sea to Sky community, Stacey and Louise are committed to provide exceptional childcare in Squamish.

Cathy
Hello my name is Cathy.
I have years of experience working with children in various settings such as; pre-school, ski school and summer camps. I am very happy to be part of the Squamish community and to work with families and children at the
Platypus Playcentre. When I am not working you can find me in the outdoors, trail running, mountain biking, climbing and also doing yoga and reading.
Ivy
Hi! My name is Ivy.
I have worked in the childcare field for over 11 years. I am fully infant toddler, 3-5 years and special needs qualified. I was born in Toronto and lived there for the first 18 years of my life. I moved to Squamish in 2000 for the mountains and after a quick short few months decided this is where i wanted to call home! I currently live in the Highlands with my partner Royce. Some of my favorite things are reading, riding trails and Starbucks Coffee!!
Mayu
My name is Mayu.
I have worked in a Daycare centre for a year in Squamish, a year in Japan and as volunteer for 8 months Whistler. I have ECE training from Japan and from Canada. I have two children, my son is 11 years old and my daughter is 9 years old. We are born in Tokyo Japan and moved to Squamish in 2005. We love talking, reading, riding and art. My current favorite thing is baking bread.

My name is Michelle.
I have lived in Squamish for the past 18 years, and i have worked in Childcare for 11 years. I have a husband, a 8 year old daughter, and a 5 year old son. On our spare time we love to go for bike rides, play games, read, and spend time at one of the many beaches around us! I look forward to getting to know all of the Platypus children and families. I believe it is a privilege to spend time with your children every day, and help them explore and learn about their world!
Shannon
Hey! My name is Shannon
My life in a nutshell. I was born and raised in Whistler and moved to Squamish in 2004. My work experience includes 10 seasons for teaching skiing to children on Whistler mountain. 3 years at the Whistler Children’s Centre, 8 years at The Keg in Whistler and most recently 3 years at Friendly Giant Daycare. A big part of my education includes backpacking throughout Europe, Australia, Fiji, Costa Rica, Asia and Mexico. In my spare time I run and read!
