Here at Platypus Playcentre we were looking to make a difference. Looking to help and looking to potentially create compassion, understanding and feelings of inter-connectedness. We have chosen to sponsor a child through Children International. Antonella is her name, she is 3 years old and lives in Chile. The children have already totally embraced the idea, sharing their thoughts, ideas and concerns. They are including Antonella in their conversations and in their play. They talk about ways we can help further and how lucky they are.

Who knows where this will take their little minds or their little bodies, all we do know is that together we will make a difference in a little girls life!

Veggie Patch Deliciousness

The strawberries were the first thing to ripen in our garden, then came the carrots, we are now totally enjoying fresh green peas out of the pods and deciding what we’ll do with our soon to be ripe beets. It is not uncommon to see a group of children sitting on the deck between 4:30 – 5:30 munching on carrots, green stems dancing in front of their little faces! Organic deliciousness grown with love and care.

We currently have extremely large wait lists for both of our programs. If you’d like to add your name to our wait list now it will be a minimum of a 1 year wait. Please contact CCRR on 604 815 4144 for information regarding other centres and their availability.

Strawberries

Today we picked our first 6 strawberries from our plants in our garden! The children will each get to have a taste (a very little taste that is) if they choose to and I’m certain that they will be delicious.

There is lots of evidence in our garden of other yummy things growing nicely all of which the children have helped to plant, water, nurture and will some day enjoy eating!

Sadly on June 30th we will say a teary “see you again another day” to our employee and friend Cathy. Cathy will head off on her fabulous adventure to Peru and we wish her all the best!

After receiving an over whelming response to our job opening we have hired a fabulous new employee!

We are very excited to welcome Dawn to our team, she will start on June 28th and we feel that in no time she will be another valuable part of the Platypus Team.

Relay 4 Life

Friday June 4th from 7 pm until 7 am 6 Platypus Playcentre team members walked the Brennan Park track in The Relay 4 Life! Together with the help of Platypus families, our own families, friends and supporters we raised $974.00 to aid in the fight against Cancer. We have an awesome team of ladies here who not only are committed to the children and families that they work with but are also committed to making the world a better place! Thank you everyone for your support, thank-you Team Platypus for giving up your time, energy and sleep. We are so proud!

Growing our summer garden

This year in the Platypus garden we will grow: carrots, squash, beets, radishes and beans. In our yard we will grow blueberries, strawberries, apple pears and sunflowers. The children here are totally involved in each and every step and they especially love the eating part.
